Seiwakai was founded by the late Shuji Tasaki Hanshi…In 1972, Tasaki amicably broke from Yamaguchi’s Goju Kai organization and formed the Seiwakai. However, he always considered Yamaguchi to be his first and only Sensei, and he always remained close to Yamaguchi Sensei and his family. Additionally, he continued to teach as he had been taught.
Tasaki Hanshi was Yamaguchi’s top student and was a revered Karate-ka at the time. After Yamaguchi’s passing and the introduction of the JKF Goju Kai, he formed Seiwakai (in 1972) and continued to pursue his karate growth and knowledge, growing Seiwakai into one of the most successful Goju Ryu Schools in Japan and later internationally.
He was awarded 9th Dan in the Japan Karate Federation (JKF) Goju Kai in 2009, and passed away on 30th January 2011.
SEIWAKAI SOUTH AFRICA teaching is based on the ancient and traditional Japanese style of Goju Ryu Karate Do, one of the most popular martial arts forms practised worldwide and one of the few karate styles recognized by the International Olympic Committee and The World Karate Federation.
In addition to developing self-defence skills, martial arts training builds confidence and respect: Karate is the pursuit of perfecting one’s character!
The primary goal of our program is not to teach children how to fight but rather how to respond appropriately when confronted with negative influences such as bullying, peer pressure, and gangs.
We also need to remember that these goals and achievements cannot be met overnight and that it requires continued commitment to see great results.
We acknowledge and respect each student’s perseverance to achieve the next level in their karate journey.
