- Where the majority of karate classes are huge and you only get the physical – Shoshinkai developes the mental as well as the physical emphasizing self-improvement, discipline, and character development alongside physical training.
Budo karate is a Japanese martial path
Emphasizing self-cultivation, character development, and spiritual growth through physical practice, as opposed to sport karate, which focuses on competition and physical prowess.
Originating from the ancient samurai traditions of bujutsu (martial techniques), budo (budo means “the warrior’s path”) evolved into the modern forms of martial arts, including karate, after the Meiji era (1868-1912). It integrates physical and mental training to build character, enhance discipline, and foster moral development, aiming for personal growth and societal contribution
Forms of etiquette, like bowing (rei), are central to budo, fostering respect for instructors, partners, and the training environment.
