Quality over Quantity in Karate

Quality over Quantity in Karate

Today, sadly it is all about money.

Karate instructors charging astronomical fees and the member getting back a quarter of what they paid for .. Fancy Dojo with a instructor flashing badges and yellow stripes on his belt is also a money indicator and ego

In karate, “Quality over Quantity” means

focusing on the correctness, precision, and efficiency of each movement rather than simply performing a high number of techniques or training sessions.

This approach emphasizes the quality of your practice, leading to better muscle memory, deeper understanding, and more effective technique development, even if it means training less frequently or doing fewer repetitions of a single movement with greater focus.

Quality over quantity is a principle that suggests it is better to have a few items or experiences that are excellent and valuable rather than a large number of things that are mediocre or less valuable.

Quality Karate Dojo,s

Good karate Dojo,s are smaller and the training is one on one.. During each class their should be nothing that misses the eye of the instructor.. The dojo should not feel like a sausage machine churning out belts to please the masses, but rather a family with a instructors that care for each individual..

Charging huge fees does not necessarily mean that it is quality karate.

There are indicators to look for when joining a dojo.

  • One is what is His / Her reputation amongst other karate instructors as a instructor..
  • Are they reliable or just all mouth
  • Do they produce good students
  • Is the monthly fee in line with other karate styles or exorbitant
  • Are they self graded ?
  • Do they belong to a international group
