Syllabus & Standard

Seiwakai South Africa. The SYLLABUS

Seiwa Kai Cape Town continue the legacy of Shuji Tasaki and the Syllabus handed down, as well as the high standard set to pass a grading, no matter what level.. Having spent over 25 years in the IKGA we also continue using the syllabus which is thorough, complex and mentally challenging..

We continue in the old ways and Do not use gloves or mats on the floor. Many have forsaken the old ways for greener and softer pastures and claim they do Seiwakai.

We are NOT all the same.

The Seiwa Kai Karate syllabus  is both long and complex at every level and is not only physical but also  a mental challenge to the students who do Japanese Goju Ryu.

We DO NOT just hand out grades or Dans – This is Not a money making organization

Students are invited to take a grading test by their teacher, and must meet certain criteria to be eligible. The teacher considers many factors when grading a student, and students should not compare themselves to others. Students should accept the outcome of the test with dignity and strive to improve.

The belt system is important because it marks a student’s progress, but the levels themselves are not the main purpose of training. What’s more important is a student’s effort and will to improve.

The syllabus at every level is designed to achieve the following :

  • Skill and Mastery of Techniques
  • Balance
  • Direction
  • Focus
  • Perfection
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Understanding
  • Team work

Colour Belts and Dan grades

The Goju Ryu karate belt system uses a color-coded system to indicate a student’s grade level: There is a stipulated amount of classes a student must attend and a required standard reached, before they can enter for a exam / grading.

Students are invited to take a grading test by their teacher, and must meet certain criteria to be eligible.
